location & light 2008

bringing Two Dot Spot Project #1 home

8:15 am 9.8.08
What can be done with this work here in Seattle, these shadows traced on pages and filled with words?
8:06 am 9.10.08
Sun again. It’s hard to think of anything else.
8:05 am 9.15.08
Nothing is stagnant. Shifts and changes are what we have to confirm we are alive. They are real.
8:09 am 9.17.08
The sun just broke through a horizon haze and is much stronger, momentarily defining shapes on my page. Will all of winter be a shadow, a total shadow, living in a shadow?
8:00 am 9.18.08
No sun…no shadow…light comes in but makes no mark. How do we know the earth is moving, that we are fixed in the universe?
8:00am 9.24.08
The sun emerges just enough to make a shadow of my hand and pen, but not the window mullions that I have been tracking. So…light comes in degrees…light and its variations evidence of location and time.
8:00am 9.25.08
There is actually a shadow today. I can see it when I back away from the table, but it disappears when I get closer…this allusive light.
800am 9.29.08
Nearly October, the sun is full but weak. Shadows are very soft at the edges and light no longer reaches my pages. I can see it might make it to the page within the hour.
10.18.08
This may be the end of the sun reaching my studio wall. Tracing the edges of Seattle light and inserting into it all that I am longing for. Each word read and written while tracking high summer Montana light fills the shapes made by shadows of window mullions and doorframes.
