have a place in mind 2009

How much is our memory of place colored by who we are and what we experience in that place? And can our recollections in turn affect the places we recall? By mentioning, naming, and retelling can we kindle our observation and commend a particular place? Does “remember me,” an old fashioned prayer request, become the plea of a location?

have a place in mind was an invitation to remember personal places of importance. Sited at Camp Long, the work tapped an old practice of going away from home and sending word or your observations and experiences. For the duration of this work, visitors were invited to write a postcard to themselves. Postcards carried the simple instruction remember.
